FUSB.
(F**king Ugly Singaporean Behaviour)

Things would have been much simpler.

$22,000 can buy you one lot of our company's shares, but it cannot buy you a new brain to replace your rusty and stubborn old mind.

I attended the company's AGM today, in a hotel in Bugis, and then there was this old char bor whom i asked to move up. I wasn't even rude. I remembered the exact words I used, "Ma'am, if you don't mind, please move to the seats in front..."

Instead, she hollered, "You don't come and tell me to move in front. You go and tell the others as well."

"Yes, Ma'am. We'll be moving them later."

"Are you sure? I'm very sure you'll never succeed in telling them."

“Ma’am, it’s my job to tell you to move to the front. It’s your prerogative if you choose not to budge, but it’s my job.” I felt like adding, “since you’re here and already so old, I won’t want to quarrel with you. If you get a heart attack, I suppose even all the dividend that you get from your shares won’t be able to pay for your hospital fees!”

But of course, as the graceful person that I’ve always been, I shall not add on to it.

So the meeting went on and on, with lots of boring stuffs…

Then after that, I realise one thing. When the chairman announced, “I hereby declare the meeting over, please proceed to outside the ballroom for lunch reception…”

Before the chairman could finish his message, people were already standing up, eager to rush out.

When the staff pushed open the door, it was actually like the hell gates opening and hungry ghosts were rushing out of the door and towards the offerings laid outside.

Within minutes, all the food was gone. I suppose even Piranhas would be amazed at their speed of clearing the food.

WHAT?!?!?! There are even people who scooped lots of food onto the plate and then transferring it into the plastic bags that they brought along?!?!?!?! WTF!!!!

Wearing slippers and pushing the trolleys which you push to the market... Is that how you come into the hotel?

Haha. It all seems so comical right now.

Once again proven; Free Food = FUSB.

*PS will upload pics when I can find them. can't find them at the moment...

Anger? Foolishness? Who could bring oneself to post on the blog; mocking a dead person? I certainly don't know much people who can do that, but this girl I came upon was one such person.

"Vindictive" is not enough a word enough to describe her actions and behaviour. Utterly inhumane, I would say.

Catch it on the following link:

I have written a comment on this. It's gross, disgusting and utterly downright puke-inducing.

But it's worth reading. Can't believe it, oh my god.

Burn this asshole in hell.

I don't get it. Some people just crack under pressure. Crack. Just split open.

You're telling me, you hate it.
You're telling me, you love her.
You're telling me, you don't care.
You're telling me, you care for her.
You're telling me, you are stressed.
You're telling me, you want to give up.
You're telling me, you want to protect her.
You're telling me, you don't want to hurt her.
You're telling me, you cannot take it anymore.
You're telling me, you don't want responsibility.
You're telling me, you don't want to be the elite.
You're telling me, you want to quit.

You'd might as well tell me, I don't love her, because I can't provide for her.
You'd might as well tell me, I regret coming here, because if I hadn't I would not have met her.
You'd might as well tell me, I can't do it, because I'm a coward.
You'd might as well tell me, I don't want to do it, because you're forcing me.
You'd might as well tell me, I can't do it, because I'm not confident of myself.
You'd might as well tell me, I don't want to go, because my excuse is my uncooperative teammates.
You'd might as well tell me, I regret attending trainings, because each time I see her, my love for her grew.
You'd might as well tell me, I want to die, because my life is screwed.
You'd might as well tell me, I can't shake her off my mind, because she has became the centre of my life.

I'd tell you, you're a coward.
I'd tell you, face up to reality.
I'd tell you, time is the river which you cannot swim upstream.
I'd tell you, no actions = no progress.
I'd tell you, not trying = no chance.
I'd tell you, prove to her that you can do it.
I'd tell you, prove to her that you're not useless.
I'd tell you, aren't you tired of being looked down all your life?
I'd tell you, so what if you can study, but not good in CCA?
I'd tell you, don't you feel ashamed that she is doing better than you?
I'd tell you, don't you feel angry that I'm scolding you?
I'd tell you, don't you want a break from all these shit?
I'd tell you, whatever you say, doesn't match your heart in any way.
I'd tell you, I had enough of you trash and I'm getting out.
I'd tell you, if it had not been for someone else, I would have given you up.
I'd tell you, I would not take anything away from you.

I just want some cooperation.
I just want some commitment.
I just want you to lead your team.
I just want you to be more proactive.
I just want you to focus on this for a while.
I just need some of your time.
I just need some of your team's time.
I just need some effort from you.
I just need you to put away personal grudges.
I just need you to work.

I don't want to see complacency, I just want some enthusiasm.
I don't want to see hate, I just want to see teamwork.
I don't want to see quarrels, I just want some peace and cooperation.
I don't want you to love us, I just want you to stop hating.
I don't want you to lose hope, I just need some faith.

Maybe she'll tell you to work hard,
Maybe she'll tell you to quit.
Maybe whatever it may be,
Maybe she'll tell you, "Work smart".

She does love you,
She does hate you,
Should one day she comes up to you,
Telling you she'd fallen for someone new,
What'd you do? What'd you do?

I love you not,
I hate you not,
I pray that you have not forgot,
How hard you have fought.

It might be cruel,
to ditch your crew.
But would you be cool,
if she'd ditched you too?

Won't you be sad, to lose everything you had?
Won't you regret till the very last day when you die, that you tell yourself, "I should have gave it a try"?
Won't it be a pity to lose the chance, to do that one last dance?

How do I tell my son?
Earlier this morning, my almost five-year-old son and I were waiting at a red light on North Capitol Street in Washington, D.C., on our way to pre-school and work when my son noticed something.

"Look, mommy," Demetri shouted, "That flag is falling!"

"Actually," I responded, "That man is lowering the flag."

"Why is he doing that?"

"Well, sometimes the president asks everyone to lower their flags to show we care when something very sad happens to someone."

"Oh," Demetri said, "The president must have heard that I fell down and hurt myself at soccer practice yesterday."

"That must be it, my darling," I said, quickly changing the subject.

We live in Virginia and have been consumed by the Virginia Tech tragedy since Monday. But I have managed to keep the TV and radio news off when my son and I are together. We watched "Dancing with the Stars" Monday night and switched channels during the commercials as reporters came on the air with updates on the tragedy.

Last night, we went to soccer practice and watched "The Incredibles." Of course, you can't control everything. And when you least expect it, the truth smacks you in the face. That's what happened this morning.

Orbitofrontal cortex

Destruction of the OFC through acquired brain injury typically leads to a pattern of disinhibited behaviour. Examples include swearing excessively, hypersexuality, poor social interaction, compulsive gambling, excessive alcohol / smoking / drug use and poor empathising ability. Disinhibited behaviour by patients with some forms of frontotemporal dementia is thought to be caused by degeneration of the OFC[8]. Patients with damage to the OFC tend to make rash decisions and typically manage their finances poorly.

I just hope things will blow over soon and that although it would be a long time, I wish all those who lost their loved ones, that they will be able to recover from this. Let there be no more bloodshed, let there be love, and no more hatred.

Let us. All. Just love each other. No hate, no animosity, no nothing, but only love.

The latest developments today (18 April '07):

Killer is identified.

The killer is found. Concerns of his writings has been raised, but was not taken seriously. Things have happened, and suddenly everybody becomes the psychologists. Everyone suddenly seems to be able to spot tell-tale signs of what's happening.

Why wasn't he stopped earlier? Why do we always come to spot this tell-tale signs, only after the incident has happened? Why...?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below is an excerpt from my message posted on the MSNBC website, message no. 1089:

I am greatly disturbed and truly saddened by this incident. I would like to express my deepest condolences for those who has lost their loved ones in this incident; including the parents of the shooter, who has lost their child, to depression and societal outcasting.

It seems that he could have been saved and many lives would not have been lost if he had friends or even just one good friend that he could confide in. No warning signs, loner.

It was all these that led to this incident. In the wake of the shooting, I pray that all casualties and those who lost their loved ones, would be able to recover from this incident as soon as possible, even though it might be a long time before they can really recover from this shock.

Extract from CNN, The Killer:

The Making of a Mass Killer

Tuesday, Apr. 17, 2007 By JOHN CLOUD

The man who murdered at least 30 people at Virginia Tech and wounded at least 14 others in the nation's worst shooting massacre was a 23-year-old South Korean named Cho Seung-Hui. Cho, an English major, had likely planned his attack for weeks and had written two bizarre plays in which boys accuse authority figures of graphic molestation.

This morning the Virginia Tech police chief, Wendell Flinchum, held out the possibility that a second shooter might have been involved. He said authorities could not definitively say that Cho killed a man and a woman in a dorm earlier Monday morning in addition to the 30 slaughtered in a classroom building called Norris Hall. But Cho's fingerprints were found on a gun used in both buildings.

Cho fatally shot himself — badly disfiguring his face — before police could engage him, but officials were able to identify him hours later from the fingerprints in his immigration documents, according to ABC News.

Cho was born in South Korea on Jan. 18, 1984, and arrived in Detroit when he was eight. A legal resident of the U.S. whose green card was last renewed in 2003, he mostly grew up outside Washington in Centreville, Va., where his family has a dry-cleaning business and lives in a two-story, cream-colored townhouse with two vegetable patches in the back. Cho graduated from Westfield High in nearby Chantilly in 2003; his sister graduated from Princeton in 2004.

A neighbor of the Chos, retired stockbroker Marshall Main, told TIME that six police cars pulled up to their house Monday night and spent 90 minutes inside. Main says he didn't see police remove anything.

An AOL employee who says he is a former classmate of Cho's provided AOL News with copies of two plays Cho wrote. They are achingly bad, the writings of a troubled young man; they suggest that Cho may have been sexually abused. In both plays, a schoolboy named John says he has been molested — in one case by his stepfather and, in a play Cho titled Mr. Brownstone, by the eponymous teacher. The John character in both plays repeatedly wishes his tormentor dead, although the molester in the play Richard McBeef kills John with his bare hands in the end.

Cho had recently developed an interest in firearms. According to a Roanoke, Va., news site, a police affidavit says Cho possessed Walther P22 and Glock 9 mm handguns — both expensive, accurate guns favored by gun enthusiasts and cops. One federal source told TIME it appears that as many as "a couple of hundred" rounds were fired during the rampage. Cho's extraordinary killing effectiveness suggests someone who was trained, or who trained himself, in "execution-style" killing, according to the federal source.

Cho legally purchased his first gun, the 9 mm, along with a box of 50 bullets about five weeks ago from a local gun shop, according to the Roanoke Times. The Walther was purchased just last week. Virginia law prohibits buying more than one handgun in a 30-day period. It appears Cho waited the full month before buying the Walther, suggesting he didn't just snap.

An affidavit state police filed to search Cho's dorm room (2121 Harper Hall) suggests Cho had been planning mayhem for some time. It says that a note containing a bomb threat was found near his body; the note is similar to two other bomb threats issued against engineering buildings at the school last week. Cho may have probed the campus emergency response with the previous notes.

The affidavit said he is believed to have possessed "multiple guns including but not limited to" the Walther and the Glock. Investigators are still looking for Cho's motives, but Cho left a discursive note in his dorm room that offered some explanations. The only full quote released so far is this cryptic line: "You caused me to do this. "But the note also assails "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus.

Professor Carolyn Rude, chairwoman of the university's English department, told the AP that "there was some concern about him." She said his writing was disturbing enough that Cho had been referred to the university counseling service, but she said she didn't know what the outcome was.

During the shootings, students and university employees dodged bullets and huddled together. Tom Murphy, a 19-year-old freshman, was locked in a Robinson Hall classroom from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. He and the 11 students, some strangers, held hands and prayed on bended knee. Like many others, Murphy had a cell phone, but the lines were jammed, and he couldn't get through.

State Police said the victims in Norris Hall were found in four classrooms and a stairwell. Cho's corpse was found in one of those classrooms.

Today President Bush and the First Lady attended a convocation in memory of the lost that was remarkably lively. Those in attendance gave university president Charles Steger an extended round of applause; Steger has come under fire for the university's decision not to do more to warn students early Monday that two students had been killed. Bush kept his remarks brief: "They were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time," he said of the dead. with reporting by Elaine Shannon, Michael Duffy, Tracy Samantha Schmidt and Caitlin Sullivan/Blacksburg, Va. and Adam Zagorin/Centreville.

Inside Cho Seung-Hui's Dorm

Tuesday, Apr. 17, 2007 By MICHAEL DUFFY/BLACKSBURG

Harper hall is nothing special, a four-story stone dorm on the south side of the Virginia Tech campus, small by comparison to its neighbors on the outside and on the inside today, quiet — just the way Cho Seung-hui had liked things.

A reporter was able to enter and go up to the second floor wing where Cho lived. It's a nondescript place: students live two to a room in three-room suites, each of the suites attached to a smallish common area. The dorm is co-ed by room. The second floor was being patrolled by a security officer. "You have to leave here now," he said.

It is no accident that very few of the several dozen students entering or exiting Harper today knew Cho. According to two who were aware of him, he was quiet, serious and, in the words of one, "gloomy."

"He seemed like a down person," said Mike Lee, a freshman from Fairfax, Va. "Like, gloomy."

Another student, a 21-year-old from Woodbridge, Va., recalled having lunch with Cho two years ago when both were sophomores. The chief reason for the lunch was to see if Cho could be made to laugh.

"I didn't know him," said the student. "He was quiet." But a roommate who had known Cho in high school in Chantilly suggested during their sophomore year that they ought to try to bring Cho out of his funk. "We'd try to talk to him. but he'd barely respond. So one day my roommate challenged himself to get him to talk to us. We told him a joke." Cho did laugh that day, according to the student.

Harper houses more than 300 students, and today it was clear that even those who lived down the hall didn't know Cho. The white corridor walls inside are largely undecorated; there's a Jewish awareness week flyer, a poster about recent thefts in the dorm, announcements for various groups on orange or purple paper. The campus is now quiet and unpopulated. All across the south campus, it looked like moving day, with students packing up their rolling bags and departing with a parent or sibling for a week off.

Shooting at Virginia Tech / Statement by President Charles W. Steger

The university was struck today with a tragedy of monumental proportions. There were two shootings on campus. In each case, there were fatalities. The university is shocked and horrified that this would befall our campus. I want to extend my deepest, sincerest and most profound sympathies to the families of these victims, which include students. There are 22 confirmed deaths.

We currently are in the process of notifying families of victims. The Virginia Tech Police are being assisted by numerous other jurisdictions. Crime scenes are being investigated by the FBI, University Police, and State Police. We continue to work to identify the victims impacted by this tragedy. I cannot begin to convey my own personal sense of loss over this senselessness of such an incomprehensible and heinous act. The university will immediately set up counseling centers. So far centers have been identified in Ambler Johnston and the Cook Counseling Center to work with our campus community and families.

Here are some of the facts we know:

At about 7:15 a.m. this morning a 911 call came to the University Police Department concerning an event in West Ambler Johnston Hall. There were multiple shooting victims. While in the process of investigating, about two hours later the university received reports of a shooting in Norris Hall. The police immediately responded. Victims have been transported to various hospitals in the immediate area in the region to receive emergency treatment.

We will proceed to contact the families of victims as identities are available.

All classes are canceled and the university is closed for the remainder of today. The university will open tomorrow at 8 a.m. but classes will be canceled on Tuesday. The police are currently staging the release of people from campus buildings.

Families wishing to reunite with the students are suggested to meet at the Inn at Virginia Tech. We are making plans for a convocation tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon at Cassell Coliseum for the university community to come together to begin to deal with the tragedy.

It's sad. I couldn't sleep last night. It was a bad feeling. A feeling so bad that I couldn't sleep.

Indeed, bad news.

It's just been 7.15am, in Virginia, US, when the first shooting happened.

Shooting in the US Campus. Mixed sources, mixed feelings. Faraway in the countryside, a gunmen enters into the University after fighting with his girlfriend.

He killed his girlfriend in the dormitory, before getting the Norris Hall, which is a 15 mins walk from the dormitory, where he killed most of his other victims.

Outrage: Slow lock-down of campus, slow locating of killers, slow identifying of victims; informing of victims’ parents. Outrage.

He went into classes, chained the doors and sprayed bullets all over.

US reels at horror of school shooting
Posted: 17 April 2007 0859 hrs on Channel Newsasia.

WASHINGTON: The deadliest school shooting in US history spread shock waves through the United States on Monday, reviving calls for tighter gun control and renewing the debate about campus security.

President George W. Bush led expressions of dismay saying he was "shocked and saddened" by the shooting rampage that left at least 33 dead and many more wounded at a university in Virginia.

"Schools should be places of safety, and sanctuary, and learning. When that sanctuary is violated, the impact is felt in every American classroom and every American community," Bush said in a brief statement.

"Today our nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones at Virginia Tech. We hold the victims in our hearts. We lift them up in our prayers. And we ask a loving God to comfort those who are suffering today."

The House of Representatives and Senate both observed a moment of silence for what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described as a "terrible, terrible tragedy" after a gunman killed at least 30 people before turning the gun on himself.

"This is a very dark day in Virginia history," agreed the state's Attorney General Bob McDonnell. "This senseless tragedy has just hurt us to our very soul."

The massacre came almost eight years to the day after the shootings at Columbine High School, Colorado, in which 15 people were killed, and six months after six people including the gunman died at an Amish school in Pennsylvania.

"Since these killings, we've done nothing as a country to end gun violence in our schools and communities," Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said in a statement.

"If anything, we've made it easier to access powerful weapons," he said. "It is long overdue for us to take some common-sense actions to prevent tragedies like this from continuing to occur."

Virginia's governor, Timothy Kaine, was cutting short a visit to Japan and said "it is difficult to comprehend senseless violence on this scale."

University president Charles Steger said they had received expressions of sympathy from around the world, but Gerard Toal, a professor at Virginia Tech, told AFP the incident would deeply affect the staff and more than 28,000 students.

"This is a profound event obviously and it's one that will shake at the core of the university," he said.

The shooting came ahead of the busy exam season, when many students struggled to cope. "There's a lot of pressure on people, we're all feeling the pressure," he said. "Obviously the scale of this is shocking."

"You're dealing with the state of Virginia where there is a strong gun culture and you're dealing with a campus environment," he said. "There are lots of guns around on campus because there is a corps of cadets."

Virginia Tech is one of a few universities with a military training program.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said the "horror this unprecedented carnage inflicts on our entire nation is unfathomable" as students in the University of Miami prepared to hold a candlelight vigil on Wednesday for the victims.

Ladd Everitt of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence said such shootings cast a dark shadow over the entire country.

"We still live in a society where gun violence is an overriding concern," he said. "We've had a series of these high-profile, very violent shootings that have taken a lot of victims."

His organization campaigns for "sensible" gun laws, focusing on closing loopholes that allow people to get hold of weapons without background checks.

Helen Stubbs, associate director of the Higher Education Centre, which helps schools tackle violence and drugs on campus, said it was difficult for campuses to have watertight security because they were often so spread out.

High schools, which in the United States often feature metal detectors at entrances, were more contained environments where security could be better monitored, she said.

Ian Ehrenberg, whose company Nice Vision specializes in school surveillance systems, said Monday's shooting proved that there was insufficient security on some school campuses.

"I do think they should do more and I don't think anyone will have a question about that," he said. "It's the responsibility of the school to provide a safe environment for the students on the campus."

"I expect colleges and campuses in the US to increase their security systems after this horrible incident," he said.

I am a graduate student at Virginia Tech and fortunately I chose not to go to campus early this morning. We have been notified of the first incident very quickly and advised to stay indoors and exercise caution. One of my friends was teaching a class in Norris Hall, where the second incident took place. She sent me an email and an instant message saying she met with the shooter by accident and was nearly shot. She succeeded in barricading herself along with other students in one of the classrooms and as far as I know she is now safe. God help all the students who were injured in this tragic event!
Mihai Alexe, Blacksburg, VA

Our campus has been shut down for the remainder of the day, and many local high schools have kept everything on lock down.
Mala, Blacksburg, USA

I am a graduate student at VT. This has been quite a surreal and grim morning for us all. We had a shooter on campus on the first day of campus and now this. We have been under a lot of stress lately, as there have already been several bomb threats over the past few weeks, even as early as Friday. I do not know if the threats are related to today's shooting. I still can't believe this has happened. My tears continue to pour as the number of casualties continues to rise.
Mia Ortega, Blacksburg, VA, USA

My friend called me telling me not to come on campus because there had been another shooting

Judith Payne, Blacksburg, VA, USA

I am in shock at the events that happened this morning. I am a junior attending Virginia Tech. I was getting ready to leave for my class at 10 am this morning, when my friend Margaret called me telling me not to come on campus because there had been another shooting (we had had a shooting in August on the first day of class). She said that cops had run past her class room and others had run in pointing guns and telling everyone to get down. I live a mile off campus, and I've just been watching the news unfold on the TV. It's scary to see how the numbers increase from 1 dead, 7 injured to 22 dead 21 injured in a matter of minutes. It's been a traumatic experience for the school.
Judith Payne, Blacksburg, VA

I live in West AJ on the third floor. Apparently it all began around 0700 this morning, when the gunman shot and killed one person on the fourth floor. He may have shot other people in the dorm too. Now the police are telling us at least 22 people have been killed (counting the shooter himself). This is very scary, and we are shocked that something like this could happen here in Blacksburg. It really is a very quiet, rural, small town in Southwest Virginia.
Josh Shiben, Blacksburg, VA

I am an exchange student from Birmingham studying here at Virginia Tech for one year. several friends of mine were near to the second incident and took pictures using a mobile phone. I am now in my dorm room roughly 100ft from the first incident. It is amazing to think that an event like this could have happened in such a quiet town. We are all in shock at the moment.
George Barnwell,

Students are terrified

Derek Belcher, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA

I am a student at Virginia Tech and was on campus during the second shooting at Norris Hall. The Virginia Tech police told us that 20 are confirmed dead and 28 are being treated for injuries. This is the second shooting in one year as well as three bomb threats in the last week. Students are terrified.
Derek Belcher, Blacksburg, Virginia US

I'm from University College Dublin and now on exchange in Virginia Tech. A murderer on campus on our first day here is as bad as it could get, this is unbelievable. Find it hard to believe that 20 people can really be dead. Sitting in dorms right now, waiting for further news. People starting to be released, seems worst may be over.
Nicola, Ireland /Blacksburg, VA

We are stuck on lockdown in the library on campus right now and everyone just seems to be in shock. Cops are everywhere. We just heard that 17 people have been shot. It's been hard to determine what's true and what's just a rumour. We can only hope that the shooters are caught soon.
Krishna and Allison, Blacksburg, Virginia, America

The scene here is just surreal

Brandon, Blacksburg, USA

The scene here is just surreal. Watching the TV and looking at the web-pages, you know that all of this is happening on your campus, but you don't fully realize that it is actually happening; especially as a student. One of my friends was in one of the classrooms where the shooting occurred, and the scene he described was utter chaos. It sounded like a scene from a movie, something that you watch but never expect to happen to you, or to anyone that you know. My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and families of the victims.
Brandon, Blacksburg, USA

I am a faculty from VT. I am shocked with the scale of this horrific event took place in our campus. The gunman is reportedly dead. We do not have much information. An evacuation plan will be performed by police officers very soon and we will go back to our homes. May the victims' souls rest in peace.
Kerem Gungor, Blacksburg, VA

We are in total shock, and it's still setting in. The fact that 20 people have been shot on my campus is totally unthinkable and unbelievable. It's like something out a movie, but it's real. I pray for the families of those killed. This is a terrible tragedy, one that will have a lasting impact on this university for years to come.
Timothy Owen, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA

This is truly awful. I am staying just outside of campus at the moment. So many of my friends are in there, and not knowing is just awful. I still cannot believe that more than 20 have died...
Richard Allnutt, Blacksburg, USA

I am a student at Virginia Tech and was in my dormitory at 10:30 when I FINALLY got word about the shootings. I was on my way out to class when I was stopped by a hallmate telling me about what was going on. Students are now coming back to the dorms. I have a friend who is in the building behind Norris and is surrounded by students and faculty who were in Norris. One girl expressed how she saw many bloody bodies. We are being advised to stay in the dorm, but information from the University is slow, although the news coverage has been the best source of information. Why weren't we warned after the FIRST shooting?
Bethany Zimmerman, Blacksburg Virginia

I am a student. I was walking to class when one of the buildings was evacuated. The police yelled to get off the drillfield. People started running everywhere. The situation is intense. Everyone is worried.
Brett Morris, Blacksburg, VA, USA

Death toll already verified at 20. Victims have been taken to a regional hospital. FBI has been called in to investigate. There was a single heavily-armed shooter that has now been reported as shot dead as well. All classes have been cancelled, some buildings are being evacuated one by one.
Justin Shrout, Alexandria Virginia

Just spoke via messenger to my friend, who works at Virginia Tech - her husband works in that building (Norris Hall) but was luckily teaching in a different building. When we stopped talking maybe 20 minutes ago, she thought it was all over now, and students were being sent home.
Scared, Southampton UK

After the second shooting, police vehicles have been travelling through town using PA systems to warn town residents to stay away from windows. Blacksburg is an extremely safe town, we rarely, if ever lock the doors to our house at night.
Nathan Johnson, Blacksburg, VA

My name is Nicholas Kiersey, and I am a PhD student at Virginia Tech, from Ireland. I just wanted to express my sorrow about this tragic and inexplicable event. It's hard to believe that events like this can happen in your own life, events that we can usually only ever view from a distance, on our TV sets. VT has been a wonderful school to me, as has the Blacksburg community. This tragedy, combined with the one just a few months ago, involving Will Morva (who I knew very well actually) will leave the whole region devastated for a long time to come.
Nicholas Kiersey, Blacksburg, VA

32 killed in America's worst campus shooting

By staff and correspondents in the US

April 17, 2007 12:47pm

Article from: NEWS.com.au

  • Worst campus shooting incident in US history
  • Gunman took his own life, police say
  • George W. Bush says nation is grieving

A gunman opened fire inside a US university Monday, killing at least 30 people and wounding 15 before turning his gun on himself in the bloodiest school shooting in US history.

The rampage took place in two separate areas, first at a dormitory as students had begun criss-crossing the sprawling campus for morning classes, and then about two hours later at an engineering and science hall about 800m away, sparking panic.

Witnesses have described an Asian gunman wearing a maroon hat and a black coat, with a military-style combat vest.

A man and a female student were killed in the first shooting in what is believed to have been a domestic incident, police have said.

Two hours elapsed before the gunman then went to his German class in the second building and shot his professor, then opened fire on the other staff and students.

Authorities are already facing questions over why the campus was not locked down in the time between the two shootings.

"I hid under the desk and he proceeded to shoot everybody else in the class, practically," said Derek O'Dell, who was wounded in his arm. "There were probably 15 to 20 people in the class and he shot 10 to 15 of them."

Mobile phone footage from the scene

Witnesses have said some students were hurt jumping out the windows of the second floor of the classroom building to escape the gunfire.

“You could see students carrying what looked like bodies out of Norris Hall (the engineering building) and there were ambulances out there that drove down to pick them up and sped off towards the hospital,” student Michael O'Brien has told Fox News.

A student journalist's video of the chaos was replayed repeatedly on US television networks, showing people scurrying around the campus and volleys of shots ringing out. Dramatic mobile phone video footage also picked up the clatter of bullets fired in the attack.

Authorities have said the gunman killed himself as police officers arrived at the second floor of the classroom building.

15 casualties in hospitals

Local hospitals were treating 15 wounded, according to a statement on the Virginia Tech website.

“Two shooting incidents on campus today have left 33 dead,” said the statement.

“Thirty-one, including the gunman, died at Norris Hall; two died at West Ambler Johnston Hall. Fifteen other victims from Norris are being treated at area hospitals.

“The university is in the process of identifying victims and notifying next-of-kin. Names will not be released until that process is complete.”

All classes were cancelled, the statement said.

An Australian student, Lesley Gerrard, has told how lucky she was not to be caught up in the hall where most of the killings occurred. "I have classes actually in Norris Hall, where the shootings took place, on Mondays in the afternoons, although this week my classes were online," she said. (More)

NEWS.com.au reader Stephanie reported her cousin, who studies at Virginia Tech, left the building where the shootings took place 30 minutes before the attack.

The state's governor has declared a state of emergency in the aftermath of the massacre.

The death toll of 32 surpasses the 15 who died in the shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado. The eighth anniversary of that shooting is in three days.

US President George W. Bush has said he is "horrified" by the attack, while the university's president has said the shooting is a "tragedy of monumental proportions".

University police were investigating the first shooting at the dormitory when they got word of gunfire at the classroom building. They believed that was an isolated domestic incident.

One student has told CNN that the gunman entered the second building, chained the doors closed and began shooting into each classroom.

"He shot at the class somewhere between eight to 12 times and then left," a student identified as Paul has been quoted as saying.

Police have said the university was not closed down after the first shooting because there was evidence that the gunman had fled the campus, although it is not clear what that evidence is.

They have said two weapons were found after the incident, but they have not said what types of weapons they are.

Student Justin Merrifield has said students were alerted to the danger by campus loudspeakers. "There was a voice that just kept repeating, 'Gunman on campus, stay indoors, get away from windows,' over and over, basically," he has said.

One student has criticised how university officials reacted after the first shooting.

"I'm pretty outraged that someone died in a shooting in a dorm at 7 o'clock in the morning and the first email about it had no mention of locking down the campus, no mention of cancelling classes," he has said on CNN.

"While they sent out that e-mail, 21 people got killed."

A White House spokeswoman has said: “(The President's) immediate reaction was one of deep concern for the families of the victims, the victims themselves, the students, the professors and all of the people of Virginia who have dealt with this shocking incident."

Virginia Tech president Charles Steger has said: “I cannot begin to convey my own personal sense of loss over this senseless and incomprehensible heinous act.”

MSNBC

Updated: 9:13 p.m. ET April 16, 2007

For Virginia Tech student Trey Perkins, the first sign of the crisis that had been unfolding on campus since early Monday morning came as his German class was beginning in Norris Hall. It was a popping sound.

“None of us thought it was gunshots,” the college sophomore said.

But within seconds the source of the sound became clear, when a gunman entered the lecture hall and shot the professor before turning his guns on students.

“He didn’t say a single word the whole time,” said Perkins. “He didn’t say get down, he didn’t say anything. He just came in and started shooting.”

Perkins and his classmates instinctively fell to the ground, turning over desks to create barriers between themselves and the shooter, who seemed to be firing randomly.

“He started shooting around,” Perkins recalls. “I’m not sure how long it lasted. It felt like a really long time, but was probably only a minute or so.”

Perkins said the most striking thing about the shooter was his stoic demeanor.

“He looked like, I guess you could say, serious," he told MSNBC TV hours after the incident. "He didn’t look frightened at all, he didn’t look angry. Just a straight face.”

Perkins' first thoughts were of survival — and the suffering of his mother if he didn’t make it. He tried to think of a course of action, but he was blocked in place by two overturned desks.

When the gunman finally left, Perkins and two other students, one of them bleeding from a wound to the arm, tried to brace the door closed to prevent his return.

“He started to try to open the door again, and then tried to shoot through the door, four, five, maybe six shots,” remembers Perkins. “Fortunately none of those shots hit anyone.”

As he and the other students still standing scrambled to help the injured, they could hear shooting elsewhere in the building.

Perkins said there were about a dozen wounded people in the classroom. He said he used his sweatshirt to try to stanch the bleeding in the shooting victims.

I just viewed his blog.

Things have changed. He's grown up now and I guess, when u're a grown-up, things do change.

I used to see them just play around, he doesn't talk much to her, she doesn't talk much to him.

They don't even look at one another in the eye. They used to talk about her and another guy, while he would just shy away, looking sad, depresed, asking "why? ...why?" The person he likes, just doesn't look at him in the eye.

He used to be a quiet boy, until till today, that he is grown-up. Now that he cannot suppress his anger and frustration anymore, he vents his hatred on this very earth. This very place where he grew up. This very place, where he (and she) grew up together. Little did he know, the hurt that he's bringing to everyone. Everyone around him, and her.

Everyone who were his friends, every single one of his peers, every single one who had trusted in him. We felt betrayed, while he was detroit. If time could be reversed, He would wish that all these never took place; and all that was present, were destroyed. Every single thing. Including her.

But his love for her, was too deep. He loved her too much to even see her slip. Little did he know, that love is blind. He loved her, but she could not even pay him back in kind. He's very sad, that he lost to time. He is unsatisfied with the fact that that he was too shy. He hated himself and he wanted others to die.

Little did he know, all that he wanted was some peace. To live with her and probably their children in bliss. Liberating himself, from what he would call "Whatever the f*ck is this".

Then he realised; that all was a dream. That life was a story without a theme. That relationships are paper thin. That what was thought to be everything, turns out to be nothing. The it was impossible between she and him. That she, was nothing, but a human being. That in his life, she was nothing more that "Just another thing".

The above story would be dedicated to someone who has failed me in some ways, someone who has caused me great problems, but this person is still someone whom I will be depending on. Someone, whom I believe, still has the chance to turn around and tell me,

"Sir, I'm sorry for whatever hurt that I have caused. I loved her, but... the hatred... is just too great."

Looking deep into the eyes, I would tell this person, "It's ok. I understand your pain. Trust me, I really do."

Friday, April 13, 2007

Once again, I realised the value of life.

"Don't worry, ma'am. Our staff will be assisting you when we pull up at the next station." a voice over the speaker sounded calming. I've heard this before. Someone has pressed the Emergency Button.

Everything seems out of place. "Bukit Batok." Even the familiar voice of the announcer sounded a bit different to me.

The door opens.

So do I go out? Should I? The door kept itself opened. For that split second, I was really wondering.

AH~! Freak it. I took my bag and got out of the train. From a distant I could see people crowding around and that poor fella was gasping for air. The MRT staff didn't tend to him! Instead went to unlock the Emergency button that was depressed. Damn you.

But it wasn't this that irks me.

What irks me is that many people are standing around this guy, whose face is already turning green from the lack of air.

"Sir, please don't worry, I am a qualified first aider. I'm here to help you. Do you have any medicine with you?" He shook his head.

"Ok, don't worry. You'll be fine. Everything's in order. Now, just breathe slowly. Breathe in..." I took a deep breath as I said the words. "Now, breathe out. Relax, sir. You'll be alright."

"Excuse me! Please clear from this area, this gentleman here needs some fresh air! That lady over there! Can you lend me your newspaper?!" I took it over from her, without even her saying yes or no and I opened it up, folded into a square before handing it over to his colleague to fan him.

Luckily the staff arrived and ya.. they took over from there.

We're screwed. We're really screwed.

ever felt so hopeful and yet only to have ur dreams tarnished at the 11th and the half hour?

I have been hiding the fact about Cheung Weng's blog from everyone else. But it still found its way out.

It's a good and bad thing that it appeared at this point in time.

The good thing is, the AC team has agreed to attend the trainings and therefore, Cheung Weng will not be the only one "chiong-ing" in his team.

The bad thing is, now that everyone has known about this. What will happen? Perceptions often led to conflicts. and even death of opportunities, the opportunities to shine.

Here I am, trying to uncover a diamond from the ground and you cruelly poured sand and mud over whatever that I have been doing, burying not only the diamond further into the ground, but also my efforts in trying to uncover them.

Took place on 31 March 2007, Choa Chu Kang MRT Station, 6 pm.

phone: *scrolls thru' phone list, calls home"

guy approaches.

"Hey, brother. Look. A few years ago, I was just like you, I didn't wanted to go home. but thanks to this fund, I'm now a more useful person."

*takes out a pen and asks for $2.

I stood there. Totally stunned. What do you mean "you're just like me"?! WTF. I would like to point out a few things here. I was on the way home from school after the SJ flag day and was trapped in school due to the rain. We were only able to get out of school at 6 o'clock.

So I reached the MRT station and then mum wanted me to call her to check the things to buy.

But as I took out the phone, a guy approached. Instead of selling tickets or brochures, he sold pens to me. But what made me angry was not only because of that he was oblivious to the fact that I am on the phone and started talking, he said "He was just like me" like what? I'm not a f*cking ah beng like you can. stupid.

You're not like me. I'm not like you. we are DIFFERENT. I'm a young and upcoming Office executive and you? You're just an Asshole. get it? You're hollow and full of shit.

Damn it.
