Once again, Ong saved the day.

I've came to realised how dangerous and fagile life can be on this day, 25 Feb 2007, 9.30am. My mum was hanging out the laundry when she commented on the smoke that was emerging from the unit 2 storeies below.

Quickly, I put on a shirt and went down to check. As I was walking down, the stench of something burning grew stronger. Immediately I knew something was not right. Things are burning and I need to act fast.

As I approached the unit, which is one with a wooden door and a frame of a Quo'ran on the above, I saw more smoke rising from the windows. I knocked on the door and shouted, "Hello?! Anybody at home?! Open the door! Hello! Open the Door!"

The neighbour from the unit beside who heard me came out. "What's wrong?"

I said something's burning and why she didn't smell anything. She said she didn't smell anything lei!! how come?! impossible lor. the smell was so strong and it's almost impossible to miss it.

The the neighbour above the burning unit came down to check. I asked her to call 995 for the help. Meanwhile, the smell of something burning became even stronger. Breathing outside the unit could mean inhaling smoke. I backed off a little while trying to shout if anybody was inside the unit. More and more people started coming down and check whatever's burning.

It could be a lighted cigarette burning on a stack of newspapers.

It could be someone cooking and left the fire on on the stove.

A scene of an explosion came to my mind. And all the people outside might just die. including myself.

So I shouted, "Hello, everyone! Listen to me for a while. It might be something burning on the stove! If that's the case, there might be an explosion!"

Upon hearing this, they disappeared as if they saw a ghost.

The door finally opened after so long and my knuckles were hurting from knocking on the wooden door.

A frightened face opened the door. "I'm sorry, I overcooked the stuffs. Sorry Sorry."

"Have u turned it off? Need any help?" I asked.

"No, it's ok. I've turned it off already. Sorry Sorry"

It's so dangerous to have such neighbours, I thought. And it's more dangerous to have Kaypoh neighbours who doesn't care about anything but just look on. How can u not smell the smoke when u're just next door?! How can u not help and just watch? How can u just watch on as the whole drama unfolds?!

Think about it.
